Queen Mary Summer School Students enjoying an East End Art Walk Tour

To ensure that you’re fully immersed in London life, the Queen Mary Summer School has also curated a calendar of social activities to accompany your studies.

We hope you'll take advantage of the full London experience against the vibrant multicultural backdrop of the East End - from traditional British cuisine to exclusive art tours, there’s plenty to do!

Alongside your own adventures, taking part in our social programme  gives you the opportunity to build friendships with your fellow Summer School students and experience the city from a local perspective.

The social programme is a mix of free and paid for events. The paid for programme is available to buy on a first-come-first-served basis.

What’s on offer?

We want you to feel at home here the moment you arrive, so there’ll be a complimentary event taking place as part of our Welcome Programme in Week 1, as well as a complimentary farewell event so you can celebrate together with all the friends you have made on the programme.

We’ll give you practical advice about living and studying in London, and provide an optional paid for programme that will allow you get to see some of London's most famous sites and explore the wider country.

3rd July 2024  London Panoramic            

A welcome day evening adventure! Enjoy a fantastic fully guided introduction to England’s capital city. Enjoy a sightseeing drive to see Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and more.

5th July 2024  Stonehenge & Salisbury

A full day trip visit to one of the greatest mysteries of the prehistoric world, Stonehenge. Why and how was it built? Who were the builders? What was its purpose?

During our guided tour we learn about the different periods of building, stretching back over 5,000 years.

In the afternoon visit to the iconic Salisbury Cathedral home to one of the few surviving copies of the Magna Carta from 1215, a key part of UK and world history. 

This day trip includes travel by executive coach, entry to the Stonehenge Centre, Salisbury Cathedral and full day professional guide

9th July 2024  East London Art Walking Tour 

Explore original London graffiti and street art, exploring the work of street artists including Banksy, Eine and Stik. One of the most Instagramable adventures the city has to offer!

This is a 90-minute / 2h walking tour that takes place after class.  

10th July  2024 Wicked Theatre Evening

A visit to London is not complete without a visit to the theatre! As a winner of numerous awards Wicked is a musical show like no other.

This is a evening theatre show that will take place after class.

15th July 2024 Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Tour & Sky Walk

Step behind the scenes at one of the top premier league British football clubs. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tour is an immersive experience allowing you to walk in the footsteps of your favourite players and gain exclusive access to men's first-team areas and learn about how the stadium has been designed to create one of the best matchday experiences in the world.

You visit also allows you to take to the skies at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for breath-taking views of the capital and stadium bowl below as you test your nerves 46.8 metres above the pitch! Experience breath-taking views of the iconic London skyline and the pitch below.

23rd July 2024 The London Eye  

Hop aboard the world-famous icon and enjoy amazing 360-degree views over London - the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel.

While riding the London Eye, you can see up to 40km (25 miles) on a clear day and at an impressive 135 metres (443 ft) high, you’ll be able to spot some of the capital's most iconic landmarks and top attractions, including Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace

The London Eye has 32 pods, each representing one of London’s 32 boroughs and it is the perfect way experience the beautiful city of London.

26th July 2024 Oxford & the Cotswolds     

On this full day trip explore two of England's most beautiful destinations. The world-famous University City of Oxford famous for its spires and cobbled streets, and journey to the site of Downton Abbey, in the Cotswolds, a quintessentially English experience.

This day tour includes executive coach travel, guided tours in Oxford and the Cotswolds and a full day professional tour guide.

30th July 2024 Changing Face of the East End 

London’s East End is a unique part of the city – vibrant, exciting and distinctive.  This tour will introduce you to the different communities that make up the East End and explore how they influenced the City and London’s culture. Hear the story of the famous Brick Lane Lamme Masjid, originally built as a French Protestant church , today a mosque, home to the local Muslim community. A kaleidoscope of communities each with their own story to tell.

This is a 90-minute / 2h walking tour that takes place after class.  

31st July 2024 Lion King Theatre evening                              

Disney’s award-winning musical The Lion King explodes with glorious colours, stunning effects and enchanting music. It follows the powerful story of Simba as he journeys from wide-eyed cub to his destined role as King of the Pridelands.

Now in its 24th year at London's Lyceum Theatre, visionary director Julie Taymor’s acclaimed reimagining of Disney's beloved film will redefine your expectation of theatre.

This activity takes place in the evening after class.

6th August 2024 Thames River Cruise

Come join us to sail down the River Thames from Westminster Pier to Greenwich Pier taking in all the sites and sounds, old and new, that London has to offer! A great way to round off your summer school adventure!
