Our School of Economics and Finance offers degree apprenticeships in Applied Finance and Economics, combining academic study with practical workplace experience. Explore our programmes and find out how they can support your organisation's talent development needs.
How degree apprenticeships can support your organisation
Degree apprenticeships combine university study with paid employment, giving employers the opportunity to develop skilled professionals while supporting employees to gain a university qualification.
At Queen Mary University of London, our School of Economics and Finance offers two programmes for employers: the Applied Finance Undergraduate Apprenticeship Programme and the Economics Master's Apprenticeship Programme (EMAP).
Whether you're developing early-career talent or investing in the expertise of experienced economists, our programmes combine academic learning with practical workplace experience.
Why choose a degree apprenticeship?
Degree apprenticeships can help you:
- Develop talent – build the knowledge and skills your organisation needs.
- Address skills gaps – develop employees in areas directly relevant to your organisation and sector.
- Support career development – give employees the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications while progressing professionally.
- Apply learning in the workplace – apprentices can put their academic learning into practice in their role.
- Build your talent pipeline – develop future professionals with both academic knowledge and practical experience.
Our Programmes
Applied Finance Undergraduate Apprenticeship Programme
Develop early-career talent for financial services
The Applied Finance Undergraduate Apprenticeship Programme combines a full-time role with university study, leading to a BSc (Econ) in Applied Finance.
Apprentices join at Level 4 and follow a structured progression route to Level 6, developing academic knowledge and practical experience across financial services.
Economics Master's Apprenticeship Programme
Develop experienced economists while they continue to work
EMAP is a Level 7 apprenticeship for professional economists who want to deepen their economic expertise while continuing in their existing role.
Apprentices gain an MSc in Economics while developing advanced economic, quantitative and professional skills that they can apply directly to their work.
EMAP is designed around working professionals, with normally one dedicated study day each week.
Your role as an employer
Successful degree apprenticeships are a partnership between the employer, apprentice and university.
As an employer, you will need to:
- provide a suitable role that allows the apprentice to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by their apprenticeship
- support the apprentice to undertake their university learning and apprenticeship activities
- provide meaningful opportunities to apply their learning in the workplace
- support regular progress reviews
- work with Queen Mary to support the apprentice's progress and successful completion.
The specific requirements vary between programmes, so please see the individual programme pages for more information.
Why Queen Mary?
Queen Mary University of London was the first Russell Group university to offer degree apprenticeships, launching its first programmes in 2015.
Our School of Economics and Finance combines academic expertise with strong links to the financial services, economics and professional sectors. We work closely with employers to provide programmes that connect academic learning with the needs of the workplace.
