Executive Leadership Programme

This Academic Leadership Development programme is an interactive programme of training, workshops and leadership development groups, designed specifically for our Academic Executive Leadership.

Across four comprehensive units, participants will explore a variety of topics and perspectives, deepening their understanding of their role and advancing their leadership journey.

This programme is aimed at those currently in an academic Executive Leadership role i.e. (Deputy) Deans, Heads/Directors of School/Institute etc.

Content Overview

Unit 1

Understanding your role & our QM Strategy in the HE landscape

  • Exploring your role and responsibilities in realising QM's strategic priorities.
  • Leading in strategy delivery.
  • Empowering others to lead strategic change.
  • Identifying leadership challenges and your leadership goals for the next three years.
  • Influencing & negotiating.

Unit 2

Co-developing your vision and operating as a senior leader within the structures of Queen Mary

  • Authentic and intentional leadership.
  • Strategies for positive and consistent impact.
  • Managing the strength of your drivers.
  • Leadership targets and vision.
  • Queen Mary governance structure, finance and leading a team.

Unit 3

Driving healthy collegial culture through building trust, effective feedback and skilful decision making

  • Fundamental elements of a healthy collegial culture.
  • Factors that drive the development of trust, and actionable steps to build/re-build trust.
  • Providing constructive feedback and delivering challenging messages effectively.
  • Decision making style and implementing decisions effectively.
  • Strategies for tackling tough decisions.
  • Embedding inclusive leadership practice.

Unit 4

Leading and developing your people to help them achieve their potential and organisational goals

  • Enhancing people communication skills.
  • Supporting growth and career development in your team.
  • Approaching difficult conversations and maintaining constructive dialogue.
  • Leading to enhance academic reputation and impact.
