The astounding return of Liz Truss: why do so many Tories still love the failed leader?

Published:

Tim Bale, Professor of Politics, is quoted in The Guardian on the continued popularity of Liz Truss within the Conservative Party:

“There’s a yawning gap between how these people are seen in that party bubble and how they’re seen outside. I think that, to some extent, speaks to the power and the influence of the party in the media. Although it’s not hermetically sealed, a lot of Conservatives live in a world or an ecosystem which is dominated by [right-wing] media outlets, and therefore they get their views about what people think from there, rather than lived experience or polling.”

“Rationally, you’d think MPs could read the polling and see that Truss and Braverman are absolutely toxic. They have the reverse Midas touch.”
