Supporters of populist parties: informed, uninformed, or misinformed?

Lecturer in European Politics, Dr Stijn van Kessel and Lecturer in Politics, Dr Javier Sajuria, co-wrote an opinion piece for Stuk Rood Vlees discussing the supporters of populist parties. They write: “Political scientists have often demonstrated enough that voters of the radical left and right-wing populist parties make conscious choices: they largely vote for these parties because they agree with the views expressed. Yet voters of populist parties are often portrayed as poorly informed and prone to mesmerizing yet misleading words from a charismatic leader.”
