Nick Barlow, What makes a centrist?

Nick Barlow, a PhD student in the School of Politics and International Relations, has been looking at data from the British Election Study on what makes a centrist. It turns out that while lots of people say that they are centrist (putting themselves around 5 on a scale of 0-10, when asked about their actual views it paints a different picture. On a libertarian-authoritarian scale, self-defining centrists are actually marginally more authoritarian than the electorate as a whole. They also tend to be marginally more left-wing.
