French President Emmanuel Macron promised a “profound transformation” of the country’s political system. Dr Rainbow Murray noted, reducing the number of lawmakers could result in an influx of more unelected officials at the legislative level, as well as in a more inexperienced parliament: “Term limits for MPs can stop the same people monopolising power for decades. But can also reduce power of Parliament as takes time to learn the job. In my interviews, French MPs said it took at least one elected term (five years) to learn all the unwritten rules, unless already an insider,” she said in tweets quoted by the Atlantic.
