Dr Lisa Tilley, Scholars and the debate about colonial rule

Dr Lisa Tilley co-signs a letter in The Times, which responds to the 82 academics defending the publication of “A Case for Colonialism” in Third World Quarterly. It says: “While authors have a right to make fallacious arguments, editors of scholarly journals have a responsibility to uphold academic standards and an ethical duty to reject works advocating the violation of human rights, of which colonialism is an egregious example. Promoting the subjugation of peoples and abuses of fundamental freedoms should have no place in academic scholarship.”
