Learning Design

Our learning design strategy aims to reimagine and reinvent campus-based programmes for new diverse global audiences of online students, creating high-quality digital learning experiences that span space, time and place.

Our learning design approach places students first, recognising and reflecting the evolving needs and aspirations of today’s online undergraduate, postgraduate or professional student.

The Queen Mary Learning Design team will work with you and your learning objectives to create world-class course and programme design, re-imagining online learning so you can support your students’ success and achievement.

Best beginnings

We start from a research and evidence informed approach to online pedagogy rather than with the technology as such. We aim to ensure that what works in online learning for students leads the process, and then look for the most appropriate and innovative online solutions. The student learning experience is central in order to develop effective and engaging learning opportunities and materials.

Throughout the learning design process, we are guided by the principles of collaboration and dialogue, engagement and inclusion in learning materials development, and the development of opportunities for online interaction and participation to enhance the student experience.

Crafted collaboration

Once learning objectives are in place, we identify and create the most appropriate visual and interactive materials to enhance student learning. Throughout the process we aim to accommodate a responsive and adaptive approach, balancing ambition, capacity and student needs.

Balancing both innovation and a student centred approach, we aim to bring a curious and experimental approach to creating online learning experiences and digital content. We believe bringing together academics, industry professionals and subject matter experts with learning designers and learning technologists in a collaborative process is key to problem solving and effective innovation in online learning design.

Finally, we ensure all courses are aligned with best practice in online learning pedagogy together with academic quality in the discipline.
