1st UN World Statistics Day

Wednesday 20th October is the first UN-designated World Statistics Day. The Royal Statistical Society is launching getstats, a 10-year statistical literacy campaign.

Campaign Launch: Wednesday 20 October 2010 (1330-1700 hrs, doors open at 1300 hrs) 

Venue: RSS, 12 Errol St, London, EC1Y 8LX (nearest underground stations: Old Street, Barbican, Moorgate and Liverpool St)

Academic staff and other interested parties are encouraged to book a place in advance by e-mailing getstats *AT* rss.org.uk to let them know that you plan to be there. Please arrive in time to take your seat for the screening of ‘The Joy of Stats’ which will begin at 1330 hrs (no pre-film adverts!) 

Programme 

1330-1445 Full 1-hr preview of BBC-commissioned film ‘The Joy of Stats’ 
(plus a short discussion session with colleagues at Wingspan Productions, the team which made the film) 

1500-1700 Towards more accessible conceptions of statistical inference (a discussion event around exciting new research by an international team led by Professor Chris Wild, University of Auckland, New Zealand colleagues into new ways of approaching statistics education)
