The School of Mathematical Sciences hosted its first Worshipful Company of Actuaries (WCA) Annual Lecture on 21 February. At this event the Master-Elect of WCA, Gordon Sharp, introduced the organisation, its place in the City of London and its charitable activities. Two new annual prizes for outstanding actuarial science students sponsored by WCA were announced and final year students in financial need were invited to apply for WCA bursaries.

This was followed by an inspiring lecture by Mark Rebuck FIA, CEO of Eversure Ltd. who spoke about the possibilities ahead for today’s aspiring actuaries. Mark emphasised the future growth areas in insurance, opportunities for entering new markets, developing new products and exploiting new technologies including AI. Throughout his lecture, he talked about the importance of data and the need to understand and communicate modern data analytics capabilities.
