School of Mathematical Sciences Inaugural Ian Macdonald Award

Published:

On the 4th of October, new students were welcomed to our PhD programme with a series of talks and a celebratory lunch. One of these students, Rachael King, was awarded the 2016 Ian Macdonald Award of £1000 for her exceptional research application.

This inaugural award celebrates the exceptional calibre of our PhD applicants. It is named after Ian Macdonald(link is external), a  former professor at Queen Mary University of London renowned for his contributions to symmetric functions, special functions, Lie algebra theory and other aspects of algebraic combinatorics.

All PhD applicants to Queen Mary are automatically considered for the Ian Macdonald Award when they submit an application to the School. For more information about the award, please click here.
