The programme combines eight taught modules with a dissertation, bringing together financial markets, data analytics, technology and mathematics. From the outset, students will work on practical projects designed to mirror the challenges they will encounter in the workplace.
A key feature of the programme is its emphasis on applying knowledge across different areas. Alongside individual module projects, students will complete programme-level tasks that bring together concepts and techniques from multiple modules, reflecting the collaborative and multidisciplinary nature of the financial industry.
It’s a course that is very geared towards becoming a professional in the field, but it also gives you that background that enables you to adapt to future challenges.
Students will develop experience with industry-relevant technologies and software, including SQL, Excel VBA, R and Python, as well as access to Bloomberg Terminals. Modules will cover areas including data engineering, financial markets, artificial intelligence and Digital and Real Asset Analytics, a module developed at Queen Mary that explores emerging developments in the financial industry.
The programme also focuses on broader employability skills. Students will undertake group projects, presentations and independent work, developing capabilities in project management, communication and leadership alongside their technical expertise.
Industry engagement is another central element, with experts from financial and technology companies invited to speak to students throughout the year. These connections, combined with practical assessments, will help students begin building their professional profile from the first day of their degree, developing their CV throughout the course.
The programme is intended for students looking not only to enter the financial industry, but to develop the skills and knowledge needed to adapt as the sector continues to change.
