Information for GPs

What are the main findings/themes?

From the focus group discussions and interviews with members of the community, the research team found the following as reasons for low vaccination uptake:

  • Lack of information
  • Community influences
  • Health vulnerabilities
  • Trust in the NHS
  • Government policies
  • Family influences
  • Personal beliefs

Some common narratives/recommendations:

  • 'Stop forcing us.'
  • 'Allah is the ultimate healer and protector.'
  • 'Provide adequate information in schools.'
  • 'Doctors should be more friendly.'
  • 'Provide more information about side effects and risks.'
  • 'Research the vaccines better.'

From the workshops (with healthcare workers and members of the community), it was understood that vaccine messaging needs to be tailored to the patient's needs and context.

The messaging service should be relevant and personalized with appropriate language and information.

It will be used by GP personnel to improve communication and information delivery.

Developing the Patient Engagement Tool

Appthealth is developing the technical components of the messaging service using themes and data compiled by the research team.

The messaging service will be used by GPs to communicate with their patients.

How can you be involved as a GP personnel?

To test the messaging service's feasibility, we will invite GP practices in Tower Hamlets and Newham to use it to communicate with their patients.

We will be recruiting six GP practices to test the feasibility of the tool and therefore, your involvement will be crucial.

If you are a GP personnel or work for a GP practice in Tower Hamlets or Newham, please contact our research coordinator.
