COVER-ME

Taking part FAQ

1. Why are we doing this research?

To mitigate the >10% lower vaccination uptake rates in underserved communities in East London and based on our interviews, focus groups and workshops with members of these communities and local healthcare workers, we are optimising vaccine messaging in text messaging and beyond. We are now piloting this new tool in the two London boroughs

2. How much time will it take the practice to be involved in this study?

Appt-health will be managing most of the data-related issues, so we estimate that the practice will take a maximum of 1 hour a week (admin time).

3. How much will it cost me?

All of the services including the Appt-health platform will be free to use for the practices. Conversely, there will be direct and indirect gains as we expect coverage rates to improve. This service will therefore additionally support routine efforts to improve uptake which the practice will otherwise incur.

4. Do we have ethical approval to carry this out?

We had a promising initial response from Westminster REC and are awaiting final approval. The research proceeds prior to final approval.

5. Do I have to participate?

Participation is entirely optional.

6. What will the Patient Engagement Tool look like?

This will be a messaging service used by you and your patients to send reminders about the vaccine and share information regarding the same.

7. What features make this messaging service different from the ones we have used before / currently using?

This service will be accessible to all persons regardless of background, literacy level, age and socioeconomic factors.

  • Messages will be translated into various languages.
  • Links to extra information regarding vaccines and vaccination will be embedded in the messages.
  • Patients will get reminders and options for appointment slots
