VALENTINA GALLO (QMUL) Bio link QMUL

Valentina Gallo is a Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology, joining QMUL in October 2012. Valentina is a neuroepidemiologist with both clinical neurological qualification and epidemiological background. She graduated in Medicine in 2000 at 'la Sapienza' University of Rome, where she also obtained her clinical qualification as Neurologist in 2005. She attended the MSc in Demography and Health at LSHTM in 2003-04. Before joining QMUL, Valentina worked as Research Associate at the School of Public Health, at Imperial College London collaborating closely with Professor Paolo Vineis on a number of projects; and as Clinical Lecturer in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) on the C8 Health Project with Dr Tony Fletcher and the other members of the team on the health effect of fluorinated compound exposure. Valentina's main fields of interests include neuroepidemiology; environmental, molecular, and social epidemiology, within a global health context.  Valentina is co-Principal investigator of the BRAIN and HEADING studies investigating the association between concussion and cognitive function among rugby players and footballers.

DAVID WAREHAM (QMUL) Bio Link QMUL

David Wareham qualified (MBBS) from the London Hospital Medical College in 1994 and trained in general medicine in East London and Essex before specialist training in Medical Microbiology in North East Thames (FRCPath). He was awarded a Clinical Training Fellowship to study aspects of Pseudomonas aeruginosa pathogenicity at Queen Mary University in 2002 and was appointed as Senior Clinical Lecturer in Microbiology in July 2005 (PhD). He is an Honorary Consultant Microbiologist at Bart’s Health, Newham University and Homerton NHS Trusts where he is responsible for aspects of intensive care microbiology. His current research interests include the molecular epidemiology, mechanisms of resistance and pathogenicity of Gram-negative nosocomial pathogens.

VÍCTOR MANUEL SÁNCHEZ RAMOS (INSN)

Medical Doctor, head of the INSN Neonatal ICU Unit, which is a National Referral Centre for Neonates with complex pathologies. Graduated from the Medical Faculty of San Fernando, of the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) in 1986. With a specialty in Paediatrics and Neonatology. Teaches the Neonatology chapter of the Department of Paediatrics of the UNMSM and Universidad de San Martin de Porres (USMP). Associate researcher to UNMSM and Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH). With research work on the topic of neonatal asphyxia and trainer in advanced Neonatal Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation. Co-inventor of Neonatal Respirator Device that won the first place in the Biotechnology and Medicine area of ​​the XIV National Invention Contest organized by Concytec-Indecopi in Peru on 2015. Advisor to the Ministry of Health on Neonatal issues, with the position of National Facilitator in the Organization of Neonatal Units in the Regional Hospitals of the Country.

Agronomist, Master in Agricultural Production, doctoral studies in Sustainable Agriculture; Experience in conducting and evaluating multidisciplinary research projects, skills for applying ecosystem approaches, participatory research methods with rural families, development of Ethnobotanical studies with indigenous people in the Amazon context, and conducting studies on forest ecosystem services for security purposes food. Experience in interrelation processes between institutions-researchers-community. Associate Lecturer at the National Intercultural University of the Amazon (UNIA)

RUTH ANAYA BONILLA (UNSCH)

Nurse, with a master's degree in University Teaching and a PhD in Education. Child Survival Program trainer in CÁRITAS Ayacucho from March 9, 1989 to May 31, 1995. The objective of the program was to reduce malnutrition in children beneficiaries of the program through health promotion activities and prevention of highly prevalent diseases in children. Health promoters were trained to assess the weight, height of children and offered the mothers nutritional guidance through demonstration workshops, health education for their children, follow-up on compliance with vaccines and other topics. Associate Lecturer at the academic department of nursing from May 1994 to date.

I am involved in teaching in the areas of mental health and psychiatry, health research and university social responsibility activities.

 

ANDREW PRENDERGAST (QMUL) Bio Link QMUL

Andrew Prendergast graduated from Cambridge and Imperial College, and undertook his paediatric training in London, specialising in paediatric infectious diseases and immunology.  After undertaking a DPhil in Oxford, investigating immunological and clinical aspects of paediatric HIV infection, he was an Academic Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics, University of Oxford, where he continued research into paediatric HIV infection in Oxford and South Africa, and work on HIV clinical trials in sub-Saharan Africa through the MRC Clinical Trials Unit at UCL.  He was subsequently awarded a Wellcome Trust Intermediate Clinical Fellowship and appointed as Senior Lecturer in Paediatric Infection and Immunity at Queen Mary, University of London. In 2016, he became a Wellcome Trust Senior Clinical Fellow and he now divides his time between London, where he is based at the Blizard Institute, and Zimbabwe.

CARLOS MANUEL DEL AGUILA VILLAR (INSN)

Physician, graduated from the Faculty of Medicine Hipolito Unanue of the Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal (UNFV). Paediatric training in the UNMSM and Non-curricular training in Paediatric Endocrinology.
Master in Nutrition from the UNMSM and doctoral studies in Medicine in the USMP. At the INSN, he is currently head of the Endocrinology and Metabolism Service, and was also Deputy Director General in the period 2005-2006 and during 2008-2011.He also was the Director of Research from 2001 to 2003. Emeritus member of the Peruvian Society of Paediatric. Full Professor Principal at the Faculty of Medicine Hipolito Unanue. He has been Director of the Nutrition School on 1999-2001. He is also a professor of Paediatrics at the USMP. He is currently Lecturer of the Master in Management and Teaching in Food and Nutrition at the UPC
