About the Project

This project is a birth cohort study, whose acronym is ARPEC (“ARPEC Project - Anaemia Research PEruvian Cohort”) is organized by a research circle composed by researchers from Peruvian and UK Institutions: Instituto Nacional de Salud del Niño (INSN), the Universidad Nacional de San Cristobal de Huamanga (UNSCH), the Universidad Nacional Intercultural de la Amazonia (UNIA) and the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).
It is funded and sponsored by the Peruvian Government (CONCYTEC / FONDECYT) and the British Government through the British Embassy, the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Newton-Paulet Fund.


The "ARPEC Project: Pilot Birth Cohort 2020 for the prospective multicenter study of adaptive iron homeostasis, growth and child development in three Peruvian regions" aims to explore and better understand the complexity of the environmental and nutritional factors that alter iron homeostasis in infants from three Peruvian regions.
