Trail Blazing Microplastics Project Examines the Impact on Our Health

Every day we consume food and water contaminated with microplastics – tiny pieces of plastic debris resulting from the disposal and breakdown of consumer products and industrial waste. What is this doing to our bodies?

Published:

Partnered with the Water Research Centre, Queen Mary is studying the effect of microplastics being consumed by people. We know that microplastics have been ingested from being present in food and water, but little is currently known about impacts this could have on our health. The research aims to test toxicity and establish a risk assessment to inform the regulatory powers on how to tackle microplastics in our diet.

Read about what the researchers said about the reasons behind the research and its impact here.
