Profile
I qualified as a physician in China and spent two years in clinical practice before undertaking postgraduate training in cardiovascular epidemiology. I then worked for several years on cardiovascular disease prevention projects in China.
In 1996, I moved to the UK and joined the Blood Pressure Unit at St George's University of London. I completed my PhD in 2002 and have since conducted research on the role of dietary salt and potassium intake, as well as fruit and vegetable consumption, in blood pressure regulation and the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
In 2009, I joined the Wolfson Institute of Population Health at Queen Mary University of London. I have continued my work on salt reduction and expanded my research to several low- and middle-income countries, particularly China and Malaysia, focusing on the development, implementation, and evaluation of population-based strategies to reduce salt intake and prevent non-communicable diseases.
