Decolonising our curriculum
Staff and students of the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film recently collaborated in drafting our statement on Black Lives Matter, where we committed to certain actions to address structural racism in our academic practices. Amongst our commitments, we agreed that we would further develop our curriculum in terms of the histories, cultures and perspectives of people of colour and ethnic minorities.

Languages and Linguistics score highly in 2017 National Student Survey
Several subject areas at the School of Languages, Linguistics, and Film have had a strong performance in the 2017 National Student Survey (NSS).
French at QMUL received an overall satisfaction rating of 100 per cent, as did Iberian Studies. Satisfaction among Linguistics students is at 92 per cent.
French and Iberian Studies (Spanish, Catalan and Portuguese) at QMUL are each ranked first in the UK for student satisfaction.
Linguistics is in the top three among Russell Group Universities, as well as the top three in London.
QMUL’s overall satisfaction score is 83 per cent. Overall 16 subjects at QMUL score higher than the average sector satisfaction, while nine subject areas, including French, German, and Iberian Studies, are number one in London.
