Improving children's lung health through cleaner air
Air pollution has a significant impact on children's health, yet translating scientific evidence into effective policy can be challenging.
Queen Mary researchers worked with policymakers, public bodies and communities to better understand the effects of air pollution on children's health. Their research contributed to the evidence base that informed the introduction of London's Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).
The CHILL study found that the introduction of ULEZ was associated with improved lung growth in children, providing important evidence of the long-term public health benefits of cleaner air and helping inform future policy decisions.
