Martin Smyth (UUP MP for Belfast South), Peter King (member of the UUP), David Trimble (designate First Minister of Northern Ireland), William Thompson (UUP MP for West Tyrone) and Paul Bew (Professor of Politics at Queen’s University Belfast) for ITN on 24 March 2000. One day later Trimble was challenged as leader of the UUP by Rev. Martin Smyth. The interviewees discuss the merits of each prospective candidate. Trimble subsequently defeated Smyth in the challenge to his leadership.
