Transcript of an interview with William Craig, Vanguard Unionist Progressive Party, by Chris Ryder for the Sunday Independent in September 1972. Earlier that month a new unionist umbrella group, the United Loyalist Front, had been established in Belfast with Craig as its leader. It promised to protect unionism in Northern Ireland and offer a more representative policy than the under pressure Unionist Party. In this interview Craig discusses the potential direction of the new movement and comments on the increasing violence in Northern Ireland. The Sunday Independent is Ireland’s principal Sunday newspaper.
