Interview with Victor Barker by Stephen Nolan for BBC Radio Ulster The Nolan Show on 7 November 2013

Published:

Audio interview with Victor Barker, the father of James Barker, an Omagh bomb victim, by Stephen Nolan for BBC Radio Ulster The Nolan Show on 7 November 2013. Two days earlier Martin McGuinness had spoken at an Oxford Union debate contrasting the IRA with Al-Qaeda, commenting that the former could have killed thousands on the streets of London and Northern Ireland but did not deliberately target civilians. He also disagreed with Bishop Edward Daly’s description of a 1990 IRA bombing which had killed a civilian and five British soldiers as ‘the work of satan’. McGuinness’ comments and opinions drew public criticism. Barker discusses the Oxford Union debate and republican approaches to the past. The Nolan Show is a daily current affairs programme on BBC Radio Ulster.
