On 1 November, David Black, a prison officer at HM Prison Maghaberry near Lisburn, was shot dead on the M1 on his way to work. The killing was later claimed by a coalition of dissident republicans calling themselves the IRA, formed in June 2012. Villiers discusses the Black case and the wider security threat posed by dissident republicans on the island of Ireland. Morning Ireland is RTE Radio 1’s daily breakfast news programme.
