Video interview with Ronnie Flanagan, Chief Constable of the RUC, for ITN on 19 January 2000. On 9 September 1999 the Patten Report was published containing 175 recommendations for the reform of policing in Northern Ireland including the renaming of the existing police force, the removal of most visible symbols of British identity and an equally proportionate recruitment policy for Catholics and Protestants. On 19 January 2000 Peter Mandelson, then Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, announced the implementation of almost all the Patten reform measures. Flanagan discusses the RUC’s reaction to this development.
