The Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission was created on 1 March 1999 as provided for in the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement. Monica McWilliams became Chief Commissioner in June 2005. In this interview she discusses the challenges facing Northern Ireland on human rights issues and the centrality of the Commission to the development of an inclusive society. The Essex Human Rights Review is a peer-reviewed academic journal.
