One month earlier Ian Paisley and five hundred supporters held a 'firearms certificate protest' at the continued talks between Margaret Thatcher and Irish Taoiseach Charlie Haughey. Meanwhile, on 1 March a new series of republican hunger-strikes began at the Maze/Long Kesh prison. Thatcher discusses Paisley's opposition and the recommencement of hunger-strikes.
