Interview with John Reid by Peter Sissons for BBC Breakfast with Frost on 5 August 2001

Published:

Transcript of an interview with John Reid, former Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, by Peter Sissons for BBC Breakfast with Frost on 5 August 2001. Four days earlier the British and Irish governments published their Implementation Plan for the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement addressing the issues of decommissioning, policing, normalisation and the stability of the Northern Ireland institutions. Reid outlines the proposals contained within the Implementation Plan. Devolved government in Northern Ireland was later temporarily suspended on 10 August, the absence of Provisional IRA decommissioning, the Real IRA bombing at London Ealing on 2 August and the UUP's rejection of the document all undermining confidence in the proposals. Breakfast with Frost was a weekly BBC current affairs programme.
