On 9 July the Parades Commission ruled that an Orange Order parade could not pass through the Ardoyne area of Belfast on its return journey on 12 July, a decision which led to clashes between protesters and the PSNI in north and east Belfast for several days. On 17 July the Orange Order applied through the Parades Commission to march through the Ardoyne area three days later, an application subsequently rejected.
