Interview with Gerry Kelly by Stephen Nolan for BBC Radio Ulster The Nolan Show on 25 October 2013

Published:

Audio interview with Gerry Kelly, Sinn Fein MLA for Belfast North, by Stephen Nolan for BBC Radio Ulster The Nolan Show on 25 October 2013. Six days earlier Kelly launched his new book ‘The Escape’, an account of the Maze/Long Kesh prison escape of 25 September 1983. The publication was also released close to the twentieth anniversary of the Shankill bombing. Kelly had been criticised within some circles for his participation in a public commemoration for the Shankill bomber Thomas Begley. In this interview Kelly describes his experiences of the prison escape and discusses how historical events can be commemorated within the context of the peace process. The Nolan Show is a daily current affairs programme on BBC Radio Ulster. This is the first part of a two part interview.
