In May of that year the DUP, Sinn Féin, UUP and SDLP formed a new Northern Ireland Executive, devolved power-sharing government having been provided for in the St. Andrew’s Agreement of late 2006. On 8 May the Northern Ireland Assembly met and Ian Paisley was elected First Minister of Northern Ireland, Martin McGuinness becoming deputy First Minister. Gerry Adams discusses the significance of power-sharing politics and the future constitutional position of Northern Ireland. Riz Khan was a current affairs programme on Al Jazeera English.
