Transcript of an interview with David Trimble, First Minister of Northern Ireland, by Peter Sissons for BBC Breakfast with Frost on 29 July 2001. Political and community tensions were heightened during this month. On 1 July David Trimble resigned as First Minister of Northern Ireland on account of the absence of progress on IRA decommissioning. Meanwhile, on 12 July there was serious rioting in Belfast over a controversial Orange Order parade in the Ardoyne area while violence was witnessed in other parts of the city. In this interview Trimble discusses the riots in Belfast and the forthcoming Implantation report on the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement, then being prepared by the British and Irish governments. Breakfast with Frost was a weekly BBC current affairs programme.
