The Stormont talks, begun in June 1996, continued into early 1998, Sinn Fein having joined the negotiations from September 1997. On 12 January 1998 the British and Irish governments issued the 'Propositions of Heads of Agreement' document outlining proposals for the constitutional, economic and legislative future of Northern Ireland. David Trimble analyses the document and discusses Sinn Fein's approach to the multi-party talks. On the Record was BBC's flagship political programme.
