Interview with Alex Maskey by Jim Fitzpatrick for BBC Northern Ireland Stormont Live on 2 June 2009

Published:

Video interview with Alex Maskey, former Lord Mayor of Belfast, by Jim Fitzpatrick for BBC Northern Ireland Stormont Live on 2 June 2009. On 24 May Kevin McDaid, a Catholic community worker in Coleraine, was killed by a mob outside his home following televised football matches involving Celtic and Rangers. His Protestant wife and two neighbours were also injured in the attacks, which the PSNI described as sectarian in nature. Criticism later arose when senior unionist representatives did not attend McDaid’s funeral. In this interview Maskey discusses Sinn Féin’s response to these events. Stormont Live is a BBC Northern Ireland programme which presents news and analysis from the Northern Ireland administration.
