Queen Mary University of London and the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi signed a memorandum of understanding in December in Pakistan.
The agreement outlined ways to streamline the process for IBA Karachi students to progress onto masters programmes in the School of Business and Management – including a 10-20% discount for IBA Karachi graduates.
IBA Karachi was established in 1955 and has since become one of Pakistan’s most prominent public sector institutions – widely regarded as one of the leading institutions for Business in Pakistan and Asia.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Professor Stefan Krummaker, Deputy Vice-Principal (Education) at Queen Mary, and Maheen Gauri, Dean of Student Affairs at IBA Karachi.
Speaking about the agreement between the two institutions, Professor Stefan Krummaker said: “It was fantastic to meet our partners at IBA Karachi. I look forward to seeing many talented students from Pakistan coming to Queen Mary and to the School of Business and Management to study their masters. Pakistan is a key part of the world for Queen Mary in our mission to be a truly global university.”
This was part of a wider visit that Queen Mary paid to Pakistan. This trip included Professor Stefan Krummaker delivering a keynote speech at the second International Education Conference, organised and hosted by the Institute of Business Manager.
The conference was dedicated to Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education. Professor Stefan, who was invited by the English Speaking Union, spoke about how quality education can be delivered with a clear mission and strategy. He showed how Queen Mary is opening the doors of opportunities for students from around the globe. He also spoke about strategies to empower educators and students.

Queen Mary also hosted their first ever alumni event in Karachi. The alumni reception was attended by over 70 former students, and was hosted by the British Deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan, Sarah Mooney.
The event was attended by notable alumni including Syed Jawad Muzzafar Shah, a recent Chevening scholar who has just been appointed as Deputy Commissioner for Korangi, and Zubai Ahmed Abro, who is the Vice-President for the Sindh High Court Bar Association.
There are plans to open an alumni chapter in Karachi in the new year. This will build on our global alumni chapters – that are currently based in eight cities across the globe: Beijing, Delhi, Kuala Lumpur, Lahore, Mumbai, New York, Paris and Shanghai.
