The Market will be open to students, staff and the general public and will return to The Curve, Westfield Way, Mile End Road every Thursday from 9.00am to 2.00pm.
A wide variety of locally produced sausages, eggs, fruit, vegetables, juice, cider and freshly caught fish will be available. Artisan breads, cakes, and pies from local bakers will also be on sale, alongside hot food to take away, from seasonal soups and pies to grilled and roasted meats.
All products are grown or produced within 100 miles of the M25, with all meats coming from high welfare farms, eggs guaranteed to be free range or organic and vegetables cut or picked just hours before they are available to buy. Secondary producers such as jam makers have to use a minimum of 50 per cent local ingredients.
Arthur Betts from London Farmers’ Markets said: "We can’t wait to be back at Queen Mary for the new term, after a warm reception from the student and staff population in the last academic year. There should be a great mix of farmers and food producers, including a mix of familiar favourites and newcomers to the market."
"The return of the Farmers’ Market will hopefully mean that there is a lot more to the diet of Queen Mary students than the traditional first-year staples of beans on toast and instant noodles! As food is sold directly by the farms that produce the products, there is a good opportunity to discover a lot more about where the food on your plate is coming from."
London Farmers’ Markets opened their first market in the capital in 1999. Queen Mary became the first university location in London to have its own certified Farmers' Market when it opened in September 2010.
The Markets help raise the income of farmers, support sustainable methods of food production and provide a supply of high quality foods to urban communities.
