Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre Hosts Celebration Event

The Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre (QMLAC) hosted a celebration event on 15 June to celebrate and acknowledge the work of our community partners, volunteers, students and alumni.

It was a joyous evening celebrating all the many successes of the Centre, and setting out the QMLAC vision for the next 5 years by launching the strategy 2022-2027.

The Centre welcomed over 100 attendees including keynote speaker and Patron, Sir Robin Knowles QC. He highlighted the important work of the QMLAC and the impact its work has within communities and upon future lawyers.

QMLAC Fellowships were awarded to two of our longest serving Supervisors Maria Patsalos (Mishcon de Reya) and Simon Lim (Bross Bennett); and to Nerys Evans, the former Manager for the Department of Law who has championed the work of the Centre for over 16 years. Many congratulations and thank you to our Fellows.

The evening also marked the announcement that the QMLAC had received international recognition by way of the prestigious MacJannet Prize for Global Citizenship.

“This prestigious global award is wonderful recognition – of the commitment shown by our students and volunteers, of the trust and support of our partners and clients, and of Queen Mary’s dedication to civic engagement which drives our mission forwards,” Frances Ridout, QMLAC Director (clinical legal education).

The event was also an opportunity for the QMLAC to launch its ambitious five year Strategy (2022-2027). Hard copies available at the QMLAC or digital copies can be accessed on our Governance page.
