Black Protest Legal Support UK and Race Relations and Policing Project

Yvonne Kramo has penned a blog for the Bar Council about the important work that Black Protest Legal Support UK are doing

Yvonne Kramo, (counsel at 15 New Bridge Street) part of our LAC as a Supervisor and Advisory Board member, writes in the Bar Council Blog about the important work that Black Protest Legal Support UK are doing. The outrageous statistic that black people are 40 times more likely to be stopped and searched under section 60 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 and the increase use of these powers is something LAC students saw for themselves last year when acting as legal observers at the Notting Hill Carnival. Her article further highlights that BAME individuals are 50 times more likely to receive a lock down fine – an appalling statistic.

We are very pleased to announce that 12 Legal Advice Centre Students will be participating in the Race and Policing Project in collaboration with the Freedom Law Clinic over the summer.  The project will invite students to read into the subject area and attend a series of online seminars with expert speakers and practitioners.  The project will culminate in an essay writing competition.
