5 great reasons to study abroad at Queen Mary University of London

  1. See the world!

You are at a very special time in your life: you have the freedom to explore the world according to your own interests and values. For many people, the study abroad experience is the only chance they ever have to travel overseas for a long period of time, without other commitments. This really is the experience of a lifetime.

The Queen Mary factor: Apart from the fact that you will be living in one of the greatest cities in the world, our London location is also a great springboard to explore other European countries and increase your international experience (but don’t forget to see the rest of the UK!).

  2. Gain a truly international perspective on life…

People have been drawn to London for millennia. It is one of the most historic cities in the world and plays a central role in British culture. London is also a global trade centre and a place where many multinational industries and cultural organisations have a home. These international connections mean that London is full of exciting opportunities, whatever your interests.

The Queen Mary factor: we are recognised as an internationally diverse university (meaning that you’ll be studying with classmates from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences) and our academic programmes encourage you to consider your subject in global terms, while also making use of your own insights into British life. You’ll also be studying with us on our large residential campus in east London, so you’ll be in a great position to immerse yourself in British culture and history – we are also only 15 minutes away from London’s West End (the city’s theatre and entertainment district).

  3. Make worldwide friends – and connections – for life

As an international student here, you’ll soon make friends with other bright, ambitious people from all over the world as well as the UK. You’ll not only share many happy experiences with them and swap tips on life in London. They will also become your network after you leave Queen Mary, giving you friends around the world.

The Queen Mary factor: Students come to us from around the globe, drawn by our reputation for academic excellence and our fantastic location. You’ll share the same classes and facilities as our full-degree students, so you’ll get to know fellow students from around the world and the UK.  If you study with us for a semester or longer, you’ll automatically join our Alumni association, a thriving global network you can tap in to from your home country.

  4. Find out more about yourself

The experience of studying abroad equips you for life. You’ll know that you can adapt to a new country and way of life – and flourish there. You’ll gain lifelong skills such as independence, tolerance – and maybe even surprise yourself with what you discover about yourself.  You’ll become a confident citizen of the world.

The Queen Mary factor: we recognise that adjusting to a new culture and a new way of life can take a little time at first. We make sure that you have your own support team to help you acclimatise to life in London, so you feel comfortable and confident living here.

  5. Gain credit towards your home degree

As a top UK university, your study abroad period will usually count towards your home degree. But you’ll also gain many other benefits by studying with us: an international perspective on your study, access to London’s extraordinary range of archives and libraries and the ability to adapt and thrive in new working cultures.

    The Queen Mary factor:
in addition to credit towards your home degree, you’ll also have the recognition of studying at a leading Russell Group university –  and first-hand contact with some of the internationally respected experts in your field of study. Queen Mary is the perfect place to broaden your horizons –  in every sense.

  6. and not forgetting... your Queen Mary support team

As an Associate student at Queen Mary, you’ll have a whole team dedicated to making sure you get the most from your time with us. Our Global Opportunities Team will support you before you arrive, throughout your studies and then as valued alumni. We also have Study Abroad and Erasmus+ Co-ordinators in every academic department so, whatever subject you choose, you’ll have someone to advise you on your module choices and academic requirements before you arrive – and they will be there to provide you with any support you need during your studies.
