Computer Science with Management is an IT Management for Business (ITMB) programme, bringing together expertise from two schools to combine computing and business topics.
You’ll develop both theoretical understanding and hands-on expertise in programming, computer systems and networks, web technologies and information systems. Alongside, you’ll be learning vital skills for success in business, such as management, marketing and accounting.
Industry involvement is fundamental to this programme. You’ll have regular ‘Industry Insights’ and ‘Guru Lectures’ on issues facing the IT industry, and be invited to employer events, competitions and mock interviews.
In the final year, you’ll design an individual project based on your own interests and linked to current research areas, such as security, big data, computer gaming, interaction design, machine learning, pervasive computing, theoretical computer science, social network analysis or digital audio.
This programme is accredited as a ‘Tech Industry Gold degree’ by TechSkills, a network of employers creating the skills needed for the digital economy.
This programme is also accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.
This programme is also accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.
You can complete your Computer Science with Management (ITMB) degree in three or four years. If you choose to do a year in industry or study abroad, this will take place in Year 3 and Year 3 modules will instead be studied in Year 4.

Please note that placements are highly competitive and awarded based on your application, academic track record and performance at interview. If you are not successful in securing a placement, your third year will be spent at Queen Mary completing your studies.

You can do either a year in industry or a year abroad - you cannot combine these options.
Information Technology Management for Business is a unique course where I get to study my passion of computing, but also tap into business worlds. As a student on the course, I’m privileged to be exposed to Tech Partnership and a host of well-known companies, including IBM, GSK and Network Rail.
You’ll spend 15 to 20 hours per week in lectures, laboratory sessions and tutorials. You will also be expected to complete additional hours of independent study. You’ll meet your personal adviser regularly to ensure that you are settling in and progressing well.
Assessment typically includes a combination of coursework (presentations, assignments, essay report writing, in-class tests, research and project work) and/or examinations in May or June.
Individual and group projects are assessed through a written report, practical demonstration and oral examination.
The schools offer excellent on-campus resources to aid your studies, including our informatics teaching laboratory with more than 300 PCs running Linux and Windows and a purpose-built media suite to support student entrepreneurship.
UK students accepted onto this course are eligible to apply for tuition fee and maintenance loans from Student Finance England or other government bodies.
