Profile

Mayeen is a part-time PhD student at the Centre for Psychiatry and Mental Health, supervised by Dr Afia Ali. Raised in Tower Hamlets, he completed his BSc (Hons) in Psychology at Queen Mary University of London, followed by an MSc in Early Intervention in Psychosis at King’s College London and an MRes in Health Data in Practice at Queen Mary.
Mayeen originally joined the Wellcome Trust-funded Health Data in Practice programme in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, before stepping away from doctoral study for personal reasons. Since then, he has worked in student support at Queen Mary and is currently a Student Experience Manager in the School of Society and Environment. This experience has allowed him to develop professionally and build a broader understanding of student support and higher education.
He has now returned to doctoral study, with research interests in adult autism, particularly the experiences of late-diagnosed and peri-diagnosis autistic adults from underrepresented groups. He is interested in understanding pathways to diagnosis, experiences of support, and how inequalities may shape outcomes across healthcare, education and employment.
