M-BRIGHT at the Bold Ideas for Brighter Futures Conference

Francois attended the BIBF2026 conference in Cape Town, and we exhibited a poster on the M-BRIGHT co-adaptation workshops in Vietnam and Cambodia.

This was a great opportunity to meet with colleagues from all over the world, and take part in workshops, meetings and oral presentation sessions. Francois was able to take part in a very informative session on grant writing hosted by the Wellcome Trust – securing funding is key. He was also able to take part in a session on the Lancet Psychiatry Commission on Schools Mental Health, co-led by Professors Kelly Rose-Clarke (who is on the M-BRIGHT International Advisory Committee) and Mina Fazel (Chair of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford).

This was a great opportunity to input to the initial scoping for the commission and to learn from colleagues working in school’s mental health what the main issues and concerns are that are likely to inform the work on the commission. There are hopefully opportunities to stay involved in this important work.

Over two days, many informative oral sessions were held along with the poster exhibition. More than 450 participants attended from around the work, including a wide range of participants including researchers, mental health practitioners, policymakers, youth advocates, civil society leaders, the private sector, and international organizations, all working together to shape global responses to child and adolescent mental health challenges.

An unexpected surprise was for Francois to meet one of his students (Hadeel Abdelseid) from the MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine, University of Oxford. It was a great opportunity to catch up!
