The Legal Design Book: Doing Law in the 21st Century, a new book by Legal Design experts, Astrid Kohlmeier and Meera Klemola, offers a clear and practical guide to doing law better. It may seem strange to refer to the 21st century when we’re nearly a quarter of the way in, but the title highlights the fact that many lawyers are still working using twentieth century (if not nineteenth century!) mindsets and the legal profession as a whole is not known for its early adoption of innovative practices.

A key feature of Legal Design methodology is its focus on empathising with clients, and their clients and so on down the chain to the ultimate ‘end-users’. This can take being client-centred to a new level, giving practitioners a competitive advantage.

In addition to setting out the underlying philosophies of Legal Design, plus giving insights and tips on how to use the methodology, Astrid and Meera have incorporated case studies that illustrate Legal Design in action. This is where qLegal comes in. Our first Legal Design programme is featured in the book's Field Work section [PDF 888KB]. qLegal is in good company – the other organisations featured are Clifford Chance, Hive Legal, Airbus, Haptica and Visual Contracts.
