Why apply for a PhD programme at Queen Mary's Institute of Health Sciences?

In The Institute of Health Sciences (IHSE) primary research focus is medical education. Our academic staff are leaders in curriculum design, delivery and assessment from undergraduate through to postgraduate education across a range of healthcare disciplines, most notably medicine.

Research Subjects

Medical education is a rich, interdisciplinary field of enquiry. We, therefore, welcome applications from medical, dental and healthcare professionals as well as those with backgrounds in sociology, psychology or education. 

We can offer high levels of support to full and part-time PhD students who wish to undertake medical education research. 

Entry Requirements

Our requirements are those of Queen Mary University of London. 

Applicants must hold or be expecting either: 

  • a first or upper second class degree OR a masters degree in a relevant subject from a UK university, OR
  • a recognised equivalent from an accredited overseas institution. 

Structure of the PhD Programme

You will be assigned a supervisory team that have both subject-specific and methodological expertise in your area of research enquiry. Their support is focussed on your development as a successful independent researcher and scholar.
