What we offer

Music making is organised by both the Music at Queen Mary  and various student run societies. Working together QMUL achieves a balanced programme of activity that supports the cultural wellbeing of the students, staff and wider community.

Members of the QMUL music societies are passionate about what they do and they enjoy tackling ambitious repertoire, be it in orchestral, choral, jazz, rock and pop or world music settings.

Music at QMUL provides:

  • Music tuition and Music Scholarships (for further details see our Tuition and scholarships page)
  • A regular programme of rehearsals in rewarding spaces
  • Coaching of ensembles, be they large or small and of a diverse range of genres
  • Platforms for performance, be they in public concerts or on ceremonial occasions and in formal or informal events such as Sound of Ground.
  • Opportunities to make music in magnificent and historic venues such as The Octagon, The Great Halls of The People’s Palace and St Bartholomew Hospital, Barts Pathology Museum, The Old Library Whitechapel and the Church of St Bartholomew the Great in London’s Barbican area.
  • Participatory events such as workshops, masterclasses, etc
  • Opportunities to be involved in outreach work, frequently taking music into schools and the wider community
  • Access to practice and rehearsal facilities
  • Opportunities to either hire or have access to instruments either owned by the University of music societies
  • Advice and/or support in hiring instruments at affordable rates from external companies
  • Social events and group outings
  • Frequent opportunities to access London events at reduced prices
