Mandatory Training
To support our ethical approach and our compliance obligations, we expect that all members of staff to complete particular training during their time here. Please refer to the HR Webpages for information and instructions on mandatory training
Research Integrity Training
All research active staff (includes technicians, postdocs and academics) must be aware of the QMUL’s Research Integrity policy and understand their responsibility in upholding the policy and the consequences of not doing so.
All research active staff are required to complete the Epigeum research integrity training course within 4 weeks of their start date. Please note that it will take approximately 3 hours to complete the course in full, reading all course material, participating in the activities, and successfully completing the final test. The refresher course takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete and should be done every three years.
1. To access the Epigeum course please go to: https://courses.epigeum.com/register
2. Complete the user registration form. a) IMPORTANT – only register with your QM email address i.e. @qmul.ac.uk. b) Enter the following token on the form – 75d865e4. c) For your specialism, please select ‘Medical and Health Sciences’.
3. Once registration is complete, users will receive an email to activate their account. Click on the activation link and log in.
4. Under ‘My Courses’, select ‘Research Integrity, Second Edition’ then ‘Research Integrity: Core’.
5. Complete the course and send your course certificate to your Institute or Research Manager.’
Information on Probation and Appraisal
Probation
The normal probation period is set out in your terms and conditions and is dependant on the role that you are carrying out.

Appraisal
Queen Mary’s Personal Appraisal and Development applies to members of staff who:
- have successfully completed their probation period
- have a contract longer than a year
