Our privacy notice

 

Researchers from Queen Mary University London (QMUL) have created the GrowthMonitor app as a free app. QMUL is a data controller in terms of Article 4 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and we process personal data from this app in accordance with this notice and our Data Protection Notice.

 This service is provided by QMUL at no cost and is intended to be used for this purpose only. This page is used to inform visitors about our policies with regards to the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information if anyone decided to use our Service. If you choose to use our Service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this notice. The Personal Information that we collect is used for providing and improving the Service. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Notice

Information collection and use 

When you register for an account to use the GrowthMonitor app, we record your email address. Your email address is used only for account administration and to allow us to send you emails and reminders related to your account (password resets, account deletion etc). We will never supply your email to any third-party services.

We require certain information in order to run the calculations in the app which determine the normal heights and growth rates of your child. The information which you input will be recorded in our database and includes your child’s: Date of birth; sex at birth; ethnicity; birth mother’s height; birth father’s height. We will also record the height measurements taken by the app and any height and weights inputted manually. Weight measurements are used for the BMI calculations.

This information is used within the app to calculate heights, growth rate and BMI (if a weight is entered). This data is also stored to record a history of your child’s growth, which you can view on the app, save for your own use or share with a health care professional.

Any personal information we collect will be kept strictly confidential and linked to an anonymous code. This means that all the data held within our database are presented in an anonymous way so they cannot be linked back to you. Any names you enter are not stored or linked to the information. All the information we store will be kept on a secure database, will only be used for research purposes and is safeguarded via strict password protection. We will not store any photographs of your child(ren) and no unauthorised personnel will have access to our records.

We reserve the right to use the height and weight data for research purposes. However, any results from research studies will be presented in an anonymous way at all times and they would never be traceable to you or your child. At no time will QMUL share any of the data from our GrowthMonitor database with any third parties.

By creating an account with GrowthMonitor you confirm that you understand how and why we will process your data in line with this privacy notice as well as our central privacy notice, which can be found at https://www.qmul.ac.uk/privacy/

Use of the share function

There is an option for you to share your child’s data with someone. If you use this, you agree to share all data from the child’s profile, including all recorded height and weight measurements, with the email address which you input. QMUL is not responsible for what happens to any data which you choose to share outside of the app.

Your rights

You have a number of rights under data protection legislation. For example, to exercise your right to erasure, there is an option within the app to completely remove your account and all data associated with you/your child from our database. Cookies 

Cookies are files with a small amount of data that are commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. These are sent to your browser from the websites that you visit and are stored on your device's internal memory. This Service does not use “cookies”; however, the app does link to external websites which may themselves use cookies.

This Service contains links to other sites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by us. Therefore, we strongly advise you to review the Privacy Notice of these websites. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy notices, policies or practices of any third-party sites or services. 

Changes to This Privacy Notice 

We may update our Privacy Notice from time to time and you are advised to review this page from time to time for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Notice on this page. These changes are effective immediately after they are posted on this page.
