The field of AI is in a period of rapid expansion and DERI is perfectly positioned to tackle the research challenges of the future in the AI and Data science space. Our current Research Themes reflect some of the key areas where the application of AI techniques has the most potential, and impact. Care has been taken in the forming of the DERI Research Themes however scope has been left for DERI to respond to new challenges as, and when they are identified.
A number of themes have already been identified including Digital Humans, Computational Photography, Synthetic Data, Generative AI, and AI for Games. These themes are areas that are rapidly evolving through the engagement of AI and data science techniques, and where there is a need for interdisciplinary research. Research within DERI has started to touch upon these fields, and enables work to pivot as future themes emerge.
