Research Storage Services

The Research Data storage is a scalable research data solution attached to the HPC cluster for running analyses

What type of storage do you provide?

The Apocrita HPC cluster has around 5 petabytes of IBM Spectrum Scale storage. This is a high-performance clustered file system which provides concurrent high-speed file access to your research data for running analyses.

Research Groups, Projects or Labs can have storage allocated to their group.

The storage system is connected to the QMUL Enterprise backup solution (TSM) to provide a high level of data resilience.

We also provide a cold storage archive service for infrequently accessed research data.

More detail is available at https://docs.hpc.qmul.ac.uk/storage/

Globus

Globus is used for transferring, sharing, and discovering data via a web browser. It allows collaboration with other researchers, without requiring them to have accounts on QMUL systems. Globus uses widely-adopted industry standards for authentication and authorisation, as well as GridFTP and HTTPS protocols. Globus lets you share data with collaborators at other research institutions, whether your data exists on Apocrita, Tape archive, Scientific instrument or Laptop/PC.

We provide further information at https://docs.hpc.qmul.ac.uk/storage/globus and some tutorials are available here.
